Structure, the history, charm of Fukuoka Castle

Fukuoka Castle is a castle (Flatland Mountain Castle) which was in current Chuo-ku, Fukuoka-shi, Fukuoka of Japan.

At the beginning of the Edo era, Nagamasa Kuroda of the Tozama daimyo (An outside lord) who had the achievement in the Battle of Sekigahara built it in the Hillside facing Hakata . In the case of construction of a castle, he changed Fukuzaki to "Fukuoka" for the place name of Bizen country Fukuoka that was the place of the Kurodas connection.
 Construction of this Castle was started in 1601 and was completed in 1607 seven years later. Thereafter, it became the Castle of Fukuoka feudal clan Kuroda until the Meiji era.
 The structure is "Teikakushiki", and it was the placement that 『 Minamimaru 』in the southwest of the 『 Honmaru 』, On a scale similar in the northeast corner 『 Higashininomaru 』, 『 Ninomaru 』to surround as if linking these two, 『 Sannomaru 』outermost outworks surrounded northeast from the west of the『 Ninomaru 』.
 Repair of several degrees including the enlargement of Ninomaru palace and the Nishinomaru palace was carried out by successive feudal lords for Edo period. Particularly, great repair was carried out by Nagahiro Kuroda who was a 11s feudal lord during the late Tokugawa period between 1848 and 1860.
